Solving Elgar’s Enigma?

An intriguing concert presenting a possible solution to the long-standing musical conundrum of Elgar’s enigma, proposed by Ipswich musician and former Wolsey Orchestra member, Dr John Rollett. The concert also features works by composers who influenced Elgar’s work, conducted by Elgar enthusiast and former Elgar Scholar at Worcester Cathedral, William Carslake.

French Impressions

Clare Presland – Soprano

Clare is a Suffolk girl originally from the Bury St Edmunds area. Currently studying for her Masters degree with Susan McCulloch at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, she has sung in major venues in the UK and America, including Snape Maltings, The Barbican, Royal Albert Hall and St Martin-in- the-Fields, London. Clare’s wonderful voice is well suited to the evocative and haunting Songs from the Auvergne by Canteloube.

Neil is the orchestra’s principal oboist and John has played both in the orchestra and as a concerto soloist. These two highly respected local musicians are our featured soloists in Copland’s atmospheric Quiet City.
