Chris Wright

Chris Wright is a native of Suffolk, and has been composing since the age of sixteen.  The majority of his works have links with Suffolk and the East Anglia in general.

To celebrate the Wolsey Orchestra's thirtieth season, we have asked Chris to write a short piece for full orchestra.  Manoeuvres is fifteen minutes long, and is broadly divided into three continuous sections - Allegro deciso - Andante - Presto con molto ritmico.  A Cor Anglais solo features in the Andante.  The music is a commentary on the contemporary world where nothing is quite what it seems.  A world which is lived behind a smoke-screen of subtlety.  As a result we live in a deceptive age of materialistic superficiality, seemingly only concerned with what we posess and what we do as opposed to what we are.  Manoeuvres is therefore a work of conflict and contradiction, exposing the listener to an uncomfortable world of insecurity.
