What the papers said...
” The highlight was Jeanine Thorpe as soloist in
Prokofiev’s first Violin Concerto. The soloist captured the atmosphere of this
piece brilliantly and showed us a dazzling display of virtuosity. After the
interval we were treated to a first-rate performance of Shostakovich’s Fifth
Symphony. The orchestra, ably conducted by Christopher Phelps, produced a
gripping performance of this work."
Ipswich Evening Star
“ The performance of Prokofiev’s first violin concerto with the youthful Jeanine Thorpe as soloist was remarkable…..she took immediate control of the contemplative opening, guiding the music with a gentle certainty. It was an outstanding performance by a teenager who clearly has very considerable talent…..Raise your glasses to Jeanine and look out for her”
“Shostakovich’s fifth symphony has rightly
established itself as one of the composer’s most personal and satisfying
creations and it was given a performance worthy of its stature.”
East Anglian Daily Times
Soloist: Jeanine Thorpe – violin |
The Wolsey orchestra is delighted to welcome young violinist Jeanine Thorpe from Framlingham, Suffolk, a world-class star of the future, to perform Prokofiev’s magical and enchanting Violin Concerto No. 1. Remarkably, she won the first prize in the 2002 ‘Remember Enescu’ International Violin Competition in Romania, aged 13, the first western European ever to win the award. A student of David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, Jeanine has already won international acclaim, judged the European String Teachers’ Association ‘Outstanding Student of the Year’ for 2005 at the age of 16. Having already played concertos and recitals in such major London venues as St John’s Smith Square, St Martin-in-the-Fields and the Wigmore Hall, she now has a busy schedule of recitals around the and has been invited to Italy in the summer of 2006 to have masterclasses with Rostropovich. You can’t afford to miss hearing this truly outstanding musical talent! |
